FRANÇAIS : Ce bulletin se veut un court rapport sur les modèles émergents et les tendances concernant des drogues de synthèse au niveau mondial. Le présent numéro porte plus particulièrement sur la composition de l'ecstasy et la variation de cette composition dans le temps et d'un continent à l'autre. ENGLISH: The Update reports various synthetic drug information such as significant or unusual drug or precursor chemical seizures, new locations, methods and chemicals used in illicit manufacture, new trafficking groups or routes, changes in legislation to address the problem of synthetic drugs, environmental impact from their illicit manufacture and destruction, emerging drugs, and health implications related to their use. The special segment of the current issue addresses the changing nature of the content of drugs and substances sold as "ecstasy". For this purpose, the historical background of MDMA and the original active component of ecstasy is outlined; a description of MDMA, its legal status and its mechanism of action is presented and reported adverse effects associated with its use are briefly summarized. Finally, the composition of pills currently sold as "ecstasy" is discussed. |
